PFI Freediver Course

This course focuses on the fundamentals of freediving. In just two days you will learn to hold your breath up to 4 minutes and dive to depths of 66 feet. You will learn how to keep yourself and your dive buddies safe, while gaining the skills to push yourself to new depths.

This is a two day course consisting of 3 phases.

Phase 1: Classroom

Here you will learn the basic physiology of freediving, what is happening in your body and mind while you enter a breath hold.

You will learn the hows and whys behind important safety procedures.

You will learn the principals and skills that will allow you to dive deeper, more comfortably.

Phase 2: Confined Water

This phase will take place in a pool or in the beautiful waters by the blue heron bridge.

Here you will put the principals you learned during the classroom phase into practice in a controlled environment.

Day 2; Phase 3: Open Water

In this phase we will go offshore into the warm blue waters of the gulf stream.

This is when you will put everything you learned in the previous day to the test and have the opportunity to dive up to 66 feet.

Required Gear:

Mask, snorkel, fins, preferable freediving specific but not required

Appropriate wetsuit (1mm is good for summertime, up to 3.5 mm in the winter) or rashguard.

Weight belt and weights

Stopwatch or freedive computer

  • This class is for anyone who wants to improve on their freediving abilitites. From anyone completly new to the sport to someone who has experience diving but hasn’t yet taken a formal course. Wether you want to become a better spearfisherman, underwater photographer or simply find a new way to challenge yourself and explore the underwater world, this class is for you.

  • You must be in good physical health, and have the ability to swim. No prior freediving experience is necessary.

  • We can offer fin and mask rentals for an additional charge.

  • The open water day is weather dependent. Fortunatly during the summer in south florida calm seas are very common. If this day is cancelled due to weather we will reschedule free of charge.
